Diving Safety Precautions
Diving is an exciting activity, but while enjoying the beautiful underwater world, we also need to pay attention to safety issues during the dive. Here are some common problems and their solutions to be aware of when diving:
1. Dizziness and Lightheadedness
The main cause is diving for too long, leading to blood pooling in the lower limbs, brain ischemia, significant energy consumption, and excessive physical fatigue. Immediately come ashore to rest, keep the body warm, and drink some lightly salted sugar water.
2. Itchy and Painful Eyes
This may be caused by dirty water. After coming ashore, immediately rinse the eyes with clean saline water, then use chloramphenicol or erythromycin eye drops. It is best to apply a warm compress before bed.
3. Abdominal Pain and Bloating
Diving right after eating or on an empty stomach can cause abdominal pain and bloating. In this case, come ashore and lie on your back. Press the Zhongwan, Shangwan, or Zusanli points with your thumb, take 3 to 5 milliliters of Shidi water orally, and apply a warm towel to your abdomen.
4. Cramps
Cramps can occur due to psychological tension, cold water, or staying in the water for too long. Ensure adequate warm-up exercises before diving and avoid staying in the water for too long. If cramps occur, do not panic. For example, if you experience toe cramps, immediately bend your leg and pull your toes open and straight; for calf cramps, take a deep breath, lie on your back in the water, hold your toes, and stretch your calf forward to relax the contracted muscles. For finger cramps, make a fist and then open your hand forcefully, repeating this process to relieve the cramp.
5. Nausea and Vomiting
This can happen if dirty water enters your nose. Quickly come ashore and press the Zhongwan and Neiguan points with your fingers.
6. Itchy Skin and Rashes
This is mainly caused by skin allergies. Come ashore immediately. Take an antihistamine such as cetirizine or chlorpheniramine, and you should feel better soon.
By following these measures, you can effectively prevent and handle common problems that may arise during diving, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable diving experience.
